Which ballet shoe is best for you?

Buying dance shoes can be overwhelming, especially for first time dance parents! How do you know where to start?

At Dance Moves we’re passionate about MDM shoes and absolutely LOVE the philosophy and engineering behind them. The built in ‘dance based support’ technology means they are perfect for dancers in training.

🩰 PROTECT: The technology protects the foot with critical shock absorption
🩰 SUPPORT: Provides dancers with full support around the feet with controlled resistance
🩰 CORRECT: Helps to guide alignment and placement of the foot for expert training

Here is our quick guide to what we think works best based on our shoes. However, you may find that your studio has a preference on which shoes to wear so make sure you check there first.Β

  1. Canvas ballet shoes

Generally, most popular as a class shoe. The soft canvas works well for regular classes as it is quicker to mould to the feet.Β

We have a few different ranges in a canvas:

Intrinsic Ballet shoe MDM dance

For younger dancers that start out our classic supportive shoe has the full dance support sole to protect those precious little feet as they jump around in their ballet class. Feel confident your child is getting the support they need from their very first ballet class.

Intrinsic profile MDM dance

The profile shoe is for the dancer with a bit more experience and ready to progress to the next level of support. This is the classic full sole from MDM Dance and continues to provide maximum support throughout the dance career.Β

Intrinsic reflex MDM dance

Our hybrid shoe with a split sole to provide support but feels softer on the foot. A shoe to progress to once the technology has provided its foundational support in your training. The split sole also makes it a potential performance shoe for Neo Classical dances that require a softer shoe but still strong support.

Ilara MDM dance

A softer hybrid shoe that is a favourite amongst more experienced dancers that are new to the MDM technology. The shoe is perfect for class and performance, providing the required alignment and shock absorption support.Β

  1. Leather ballet shoes

The traditional leather ballet shoe is most used for exam situations and Classical ballet performances. For younger students there is just elastics, for older students they would mostly have ribbons. We have one style of the leather shoe from MDM dance:

Β

The elemental reflex is the leather version of the intrinsic reflex, with the perfect split sole that provides essential support, but looks beautiful on the foot.Β
