How to tie and sew ballet ribbons

One of the first things to learn and perfect as a dance parent is how to help your child tie their ballet shoe ribbons! 🩰

Most dancers won’t require ribbons on their shoes until they have progressed out of the pre-school and beginner phase of dancing. It would usually be for exams or performances to start with and so anytime from the age of 7 onwards your dance teacher may request ribbons on ballet shoes.Β

Our Motion Ribbon from MDM Dance is perfect for younger dancers, who sometimes find it an odd feeling to have something wrapped around their ankle as they move. The stretch in the motion ribbon gives them more flexibility when rising up on demi point and doing travelling steps.Β

We put together a video that shows how to tie ribbons but also how to keep them secure for those special exam and performance experiences. It can be upsetting for dancers to look down and see their ribbons have come loose and the ends flapping around.Β
